Turkish Coffee
Our lovely Turkish demitasse set got us thinking - thinking about coffee. Coffee is everywhere - people have been drinking coffee now for centuries. In fact, the researchers say that people began drinking coffee as early as the 9th century.
According to historians, coffee drinking began in Ethiopia and then spread to Egypt; and by the 15th century it had reached Persia and
Turkey. Once established in the Muslim world, it made it's way to Italy, the rest of Europe, and then to the Americas.
And of course, every place has its own customs for coffee drinking; for example, no self respecting coffee drinker in Italy would have a cappuccino after the morning hours. And every place has its own styles of coffee - think, the Italians and espresso, the French and cafe au lait, the Turks and - Turkish coffee!
Turkish coffee is delicious; but it's always seemed a bit mysterious to us, as to how it's made. After all, you have the rich, robust coffee with the bit of crema at the top of the cup; but be careful not too take a big swig at the end or you'll wind up with the mud.
